 [AS INTRODUCED IN THE SENATE]  
A  BILL  further to amend the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan  
 WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the purposes hereinafter appearing;   
 It is hereby enacted as follows:- 
1. Short title and commencement.-   (1)  This Act may be called the Constitution (Amendment) Act, 2014.  
 (2) It shall come into force at once.  2. Amendment of Article 251 of the Constitution.- In the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in  Article 251,-  
(i) in the heading, for the word “language”, the word “languages” shall be substituted;  
 (ii) for clause (1), the following shall be substituted, namely:-  
 “(1) The National languages of Pakistan are Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pushto, Balochi and Saraiki, and arrangements shall be made for their being used for official and other purposes within fifteen years from the commencement of this Act.”.;  
 (iii) in clause (2), for the word “Urdu” the words “the National languages” shall be substituted; and  
 (iv) in clause (3), for the words “National language” the words “National languages” shall be substituted.  
STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS  
 Punjabi, Sindhi, Pushto, Balochi and Saraiki are spoken by a majority of population of Pakistan. After the 18th amendment it is necessary to give the status of national languages to all languages of federating units. Even in India some of above mentioned languages have been declared as national languages. In order to achieve the said objectives, above amendment is proposed.
